Wellbeing by Alison Webster,

Wellbeing by Alison Webster,
As a theme for serious and sustained treatment, church and society tends to be regarded as a subject from a bygone age. This reflects the way in which our cultural, social and political situation has changed over the last fifty years, during which it has become increasingly difficult (and has increasingly appeared to be redundant) to relate church and God-talk to society. One of the most marked shifts during this period has been the virtually complete secularisation of culture, at least in its public spheres, and the consequent marginalization of the church, of God and of God-talk. Hence it is not now clear whether the church can legitimately and effectively claim public space and communicate in a radically secular society. However, instead of a sense of crisis, there is complacency within the churches about the present and future status and contribution of the church to national life (evident in both sides of the debate concerning Establishment). In addition, there is no clear understanding among the churches either of what their relationship to society might properly be or even of what society is or might be. Put theologically, this crisis is about whether it is possible any longer to have a public theology: one which is socially and confessionally responsible, which has theological integrity in responding to and addressing society. Put in more ecclesiastical terms, it concerns the possibility of being church in and for society. This series is envisaged as an opportunity for contributors to discuss concrete issues, attending seriously to specific historical, cultural, political and ecclesiastical dynamics. It is hoped that discussion of the particular will be framed in such away as to invite comparisons which will illuminate other situations too. The series invites authors to write against the background of this crisis and to ask what the church might have to say to the next generation.

When God Builds a Church: 10 Principles for Growing a Dynamic Church by Bob Russell, X
Can the church truly be the "city on a hill that cannot be hidden" that Jesus talked about in the Sermon on the Mount? Can it grow large enough to attract throngs of seekers and yet be loving enough to care for each individual that comes? Bob Russell, pastor of the Southeastern Christian Church -- one of the largest and fastest growing churches in America -- says that it most certainly can. But it can only be done when we are submissive to God's will and allow Him to build that church. In the pages of this far-sighted, uncompromising book, Bob Russell and his son Rusty share the ten principles upon which this remarkable church was founded. Throughout the book, you will see God's mighty power at work in a church that began in 1967 with only 125 members and has now grown to become a bustling "city on a hill" whose beaming faith powerfully impacts its community and the world. This book shares not only the story of one of the most amazing churches in America but also the story of what your church can become as you follow these ten time-tested principles and allow God to build your church.

LDS Conference Center - The LDS Conference Center, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the premier meeting hall for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS Church, popularly known as the "Mormons"), and one of the largest theater-style buildings in the world. Completed in spring 2000 in time for the Church's twice-yearly General Conferences, the 21,000 seat Conference Center replaced the nearby Salt Lake Tabernacle built in 1868.

LDS movies - LDS movies refers to non-commercial motion pictures commissioned by or officially produced by the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This differs from LDS cinema where members of the church produce films without official church involvement.

LDS fiction - LDS fiction (or Mormon fiction) is a growing niche market of fiction novels featuring themes related to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS Church, see also "Mormon"). Much of the recent rise in the number of titles and the improvement in the quality of LDS fiction is often attributed to Gerald Lund's popular LDS historical fiction series the Work and the Glory.
