Pedestals and Podiums: Utah Women, Religious Authority, and Equal Rights The LDS Woman's Exponent of the 1800s promoted, in its masthead, "The Rights of the Women of All Nations." Editor Emmeline B. Wells was close friends with Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Church President Joseph F. Smith supported women's liberation, criticizing women who "seem to glory in their enthralled condition and who caress and fondle the very chains and manacles which fetter and enslave them!" Not surprisingly, Utah women were the first in the U.S. to get the vote. Fast forward to the 1970s, and the sentiment changed as the LDS Church took a stand against feminism and the Equal Rights Amendment. In a bitter campaign that was sometimes public and sometimes behind the scenes, the church joined the national charge against the ERA. It is a fascinating story, superbly documented, with equally interesting views from both sides of the controversies, showing how a once radical church became a bastion of conservatism.
Statements of the Lds First Presidency: A Topical Compendium In 1851 the LDS First Presidency released the following statement: "The unparalleled spread of the gospel, in so short of a space of time, and the rapid gathering of the Saints, is another token of the Messiah's near approach." Almost 150 years later, a new First Presidency concurred: "We testify that He will someday return to earth." From 1830 to the present, the highest governing quorum of the LDS Church has regularly issued official declarations of interest to members, usually addressing practical matters of administration, policy, or general admonitions and guidance. Less often, but as important, are its periodic authoritative declarations regarding belief, doctrine, and theology, Statements of the LDS First Presidency assembles the most significant pronouncements in alphabetical order by topic, providing readers easy access to a wide variety of official LDS doctrinal, theological, and related teachings.

LDS movies - LDS movies refers to non-commercial motion pictures commissioned by or officially produced by the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This differs from LDS cinema where members of the church produce films without official church involvement. LDS fiction - LDS fiction (or Mormon fiction) is a growing niche market of fiction novels featuring themes related to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS Church, see also "Mormon"). Much of the recent rise in the number of titles and the improvement in the quality of LDS fiction is often attributed to Gerald Lund's popular LDS historical fiction series the Work and the Glory.
